A Blank Slate

Time to start on the interior. If you remember my earlier post when I received this boat, it just had a plywood interior. The original interior was nonexistent…

There’s a lot of trial and error when doing it this way.  All I have to go from are pictures which really don’t show a lot of detail of the interior.

Basically, I start with the floor to get a good solid foundation and build my way up from there.  Keeping in mind that I have to allow access to some of the mechanical parts under the floor.

The seats are a lot of fun.  All the different angles that I have to deal with on each seat takes me about eight hours to create.

On the intermediate seat of the boat, I’m making it into a bench so you can stretch out.

  1. Jack, I really enjoy your posts and following the progress you’re making. I’m always amazed by the amount of detail and craftmanship you put into every aspect of the rebuilds….can’t imagine how you find the time. I look forward to stopping by the shop again when COVID is gone. I did stop by a few weeks ago and took a look at the two projects you have trailered outside. That gave me a good perspective of what little you have to start with.

  2. Great job! I really didn’t understanding what was actually behind the construction of these boats. Very interesting watching you put one together, especially after seeing what terrible shape they were in. Not many people have the foresight you have when you find one to work on.

  3. Mike,
Sorry for the delay In replying. I have been really busy and have a lot of projects in the works right now. Thanks for your kind comments. I think we are all ready for this to be over, but we all need to take this as a lesson and learn from it. After the holidays, I’m planning to do some type of a video showing everyone my storage building where I keep all my boats, which is different than the building I restore them in.
