Custom Boat Bars: Part II

Both boat bar structures have been built out of treated lumber so they can be used indoors or can be left outside.  Please keep in mind that I can custom build any bar to your specifications for interior or exterior use.

I started planking the outside of both boat bars with the old original exterior planking from a Chris Craft Holiday that I just finished restoring. This is just like building a boat – a lot of cutting and planing to fit. There are a lot of screws in each one of these bars. They are just as much work as restoring a boat even with leaving it vintage.

We move on to the long and boring job of cutting out around 2,000 plugs. I individually glue and hammer each one in by hand.  Once they have dried, I cut them off as close to the wood finish as I can and then sand them down smooth. Then I build the interior shelves in both bars and stain all the interior with the nice red color I use on a boat interior hull.  The last step is to varnish the exterior of both bars with multiple coats and then add the trim to finish off the exterior.

One of the bars I built out of the transom (back) of the boat and made it smaller so it can be used indoor or outdoor such as around a pool or small deck.
