Fox Lake

As you can see, I could see the letters MIN and I knew it was Marine at the end.  So, I did some research and figured it out…Mineola Marine.

I had never heard of Mineola Marine, but I found them…in Fox Lake, Illinois.

I have been there two times. It’s like walking back in time. I would suggest you look up their website.  The hotel was a grand palace that reminds me of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

All I can say is that stripping paint off of the boat is painstaking and laborious.

I removed the paint from everywhere except the boards you see that have white left on them, which will be replaced.

When I strip a boat like this, I always think I should take stock in sandpaper.  I go through a lot of it for sure.

You can really start to see the grain of the wood.

Yep, the next thing is to strip the interior.  It’s a lot of fun removing the interior plywood that was screwed down with flat head screws then painted several times.

Twin Chrysler 383’s are very, very heavy.

I’ll DEFINITELY be removing the ugly off the front bulkhead.

I store all the parts and pieces in plastic bins to keep track of them for when I put it back together after the restoration.

It’s always fun keeping tools inside of a boat with a contour on the bottom…everything slides to the middle.

I take lots of pictures to help when it’s time to put it back together.
