After removing the many layers of paint on the bottom, it’s time to start removing the screws.

There’s around 2,000 screws to remove. The worst part is that half of them are stripped out. I have to use an easy out, it’s a little reverse screw bit, to get them out after I drill an 1/8” hole in the screw. Yep, lots of patience.

On the right side, I have removed all the planks. On the left side, you can see all the planks that still need to be removed. Under the planks is a another layer of wood that has to be removed.

Yep, more screws, can’t wait. Usually, when restoring one of these boats, I get about half to 3/4’s of a 5 gallon bucket of brass screws, which I cash in for about 75 to 80 bucks. Not a bad little payday.

I’m fortunate with this boat that the structure is in good shape. Makes me very happy.

Here’s a good shot of the structure. Yeah, a little dirt, a little grime. This allows me to see everything I need to check on. I replace all the bolts and screws as I rebuild the boat.
