The Next Step

Now that I have the first layer of the top deck all screwed down and secured, it’s time for the first coat of stain on the interior. I’m starting the finishing touches.

By the time you caulk all the joints, sand it lightly and fill all the screw holes in the whole entire interior plywood, it’s taken a whole day. Then it only took me 20 minutes to give it a coat of stain. The first coat is waiting to dry and then I’ll give it another coat.

Now that I have the interior all stained, I’m getting ready to put the final top deck on. But, before I move forward with that, I need to put a trim board around. It ties the top to the sides and fills in the gaps and imperfections down the sides.

The top is now a blank canvas.  It’s time to start laying out the deck boards I have pulled off of several different boats over the years and try to work out some type of a pattern that will match up and look like it was supposed to be that way.
