Vegas Boat Bar, Part XIII

Now that I have it nice and smooth, it’s time for the color match like I had talked about in the past post.  I used probably about six different colors of stain trying to even it out as much as possible.

This top always makes it interesting when you have variations of all the wood and also new wood.  As you remember, the rails on the very front of the boat bar are brand new wood and freshly shaved.  So, it’s going to take me at least two or three times to color match it with the rest of the top.

As you can see, the first coat of stain is definitely lighter and will need another coat after it gets good and dry. This is trial and error.

Here’s a good close-up showing how different the rail colors are.   With a little bit more work, I’ll get there.

Here it is with the second coat of stain.  It’s getting there.  I always have to wait for it to dry to get the total effect.  Sometimes the variation comes back in the drying process, but this is looking pretty sweet.  I think it’s going to be just fine.

I’m custom building this for a couple in Vegas.  It’s always been a pleasure to work with people all over. I think they’re going to be really super happy. As I go through the building process, I take numerous pictures keeping them in the loop of the process. I also make sure they’re satisfied all the way through. They love the color and stain match.
